Phillies, Mets series preview

After splitting the series against the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies will travel to the big apple to take on the New York Mets in a three-game series. This will be one of the last times the Phillies get to see the Mets this season as they will not meet as the season comes to an end.

The Phillies have been in a slump since they came back from the west coast trip. They are 3-7 in their last ten games. Since being on the west coast trip, they have yet to win a series. However, they have an opportunity to make some ground on the Mets because they won't see Max Scherzer or DeGrom as they are both still out.

Both Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos have gone cold for this Phillies team with Kyle going 1 for his last 10 at-bats and Castellanos going 2 for his last 15 at-bats. They need to start picking it up for the Phillies if the offense wants to come alive.

We will see Bailey Falter (0-1, 3.75ERA, 7SO) on the mound Friday going against Carlos Carrasco (4-1, 3.50ERA, 39SO). Zach Eflin(1-3, 3.65ERA, 35SO) will take the mound Saturday against Taijuan Walker(2-0, 2.70ERA, 18SO) and then we will get Zack Wheeler(3-3 3.38ERA, 51SO) on the mound Sunday against his former team and the Mets have not named a starter yet.

The Phillies need to start stringing some series wins together. This team is like a rollercoaster. They go high and get hot then come down the hill drastically and can't get anything going. This team needs to start winning the series if they want to make the playoffs.

Also, Girardi has to do a better job managing the bullpen. You need to have your best guys available against division opponents and not have Nick Nelson closing a game. The defense needs to play better too. I still can not get over the play against the Braves when the pitch went into the dirt, then the JT overthrow, and then Odubels blunder in the outfield completely missing the ball and allowing a run to come in.

This team has a lot to work out but we are still early in the season. Wait till summer hits and the balls will be flying for this team. Have patience Phillies fans have patience.
