Flyers End Season With Win

The Flyers took the ice against the New Jersey Devils for their last game of the season and ended on a positive note. Winning the game 4-2 with two goals from leading goal scorer this season Joel Farabee, as well as goals from Sean Couturier and James van Riemsdyk. The season series between the Devils and Flyers will end 4-4. It was undoubtedly a very disappointing season for Philadelphia and did not go the way anybody had planned, however it was still nice to see some effort even with nothing to play for and pull out a win. In the end, it will be another season without a Stanley Cup trophy in their hands.

In very Flyers fashion for this season, they fell down 2-0 in the first period to New Jersey when Pavel Zacha and Janne Kuokkanen netted two early goals. With two goals in just over five minutes of gamete conceded, the Flyers could have just packed it in there, but they fought their way back into the game. Farabee got his first of the game off an assist from Kevin Hayes with seven minutes left in the first period to get one back for the Flyers. The Flyers continued to apply the pressure into the first intermission.

The Flyers came out firing in the second period with lots of shots on goal. Brian Elliott was also great in goal for the Flyers this game, saving 23 of the 25 shots and not allowing a goal after the first five minutes. It will probably be the last time we see Elliott in a Flyers jersey and it was great to see him end on a note like that. Halfway through the second period the Flyers were able to tie the game off of the stick of Couturier, who before the game was awarded the Flyers team MVP for the season. It was a brand new hockey game and all tied up going into the third and final frame.

In the Flyers last twenty minutes of their season they were able to pull out the two points. JVR broke the deadlock with eight minutes to play off of the power play with an assist from Couturier. Farabee then buried the game with his second goal of the day with four minutes to play to make the game 4-2, Kevin Hayes had the assist on this goal as well. And as the final horn went off with the Flyers season, the Flyers did a skate around the rink saluting the fans who showed up this season and supported them all year, a nice gesture from the team.

This season will ultimately go down as an abysmal failure due to the high expectations coming in, but there were some late bright sports from the young players that got their first NHL experience. Wade Allison and Cam York made the most of their call ups to the show and probably earned themselves a spot on the starting roster for next season. Some faces to look to be moved this offseason will probably be Jakub Voracek, Shayne Gostisbehere, and maybe even Nolan Patrick, former second overall pick who had a disappointing year coming off of missing all of last year due to migraine issues. Buckle up folks, because this offseason for the orange and black could be very interesting.
